Biography of Karl Benz - Mercedes Benz Founder


Full name Karl Friedrich Benz was a German engineer, Karl Benz designed and built the world's first practical automobile to be powered by internal combustion engines. On January 29, 1886, Benz received the first patent (DRP No. 37 435) for gasoline-fueled cars. It is a three-wheeled car; Benz built the first four-wheeled car in 1891. and Company, founded by Benz & Company, becoming the first company at the same time become the world's largest producer of cars by 1900.

Karl Friedrich Benz was born in 1844 in Baden Muehlburg, Germany (now part of Karlsruhe). He was the son of an engine driver. Benz school in Karlsruhe majors grammar school and then the Polytechnic University of Karlsruhe. In 1871, he founded the first company with partner August Ritter, "Iron Foundry and Machine Shop" store building materials supplier.

Benz began his work on two-stroke engine, with the hope of finding new revenues or penghasilann. He received his first patent in 1879. In 1883, he founded the Benz & Company to produce industrial engines in Mannheim, Germany. He then began designing a "motor carriage", with four-stroke engine (based on Nikolaus Otto patents). Benz designed the engine (958cc, 0.75hp) and the framework for three-wheeled vehicles with electric ignition, differential gears, and water coolers. The car was first run in Mannheim in 1885. On January 29, 1886, he was granted a patent for his gas-fueled cars (DRP 37,435) and in July, he began selling cars to the public.


In 1893, Velo-Benz became the world's first low-cost car, and a mass-produced car. there in 1903, Karl Benz retired from Benz & Company, its design is outdated by Gottlieb Daimler. He served as a member of the supervisory board of Daimler-Benz AG from 1926, when the company was formed, until his death.
He married Bertha Ringer in 1872, which played an active role in the business, together they have five children. Karl Benz passed away in 1929.
