Mr John Gooding who operates the charter boat anglers say that indeed there are sharks everywhere, even though no data showing an increase in population.
Many crowded beaches in Queensland are protected by nets or drum lines, namely row hook tied with a buoy and placed about 450 meters from the beach. Since protection is used, there is only one deadly attack ever occurred. At that time, a student named Sarah Whiley was killed because of shark attacks at beaches Stradbrooke island three years ago.
Lately, Queensland local governments are under pressure from environmental activists to get rid of these protectors because whales and other large fish are often trapped there.
But according to the fisheries minister, Tim Mulherin, finding shark carcasses indicates the protective nets are still needed.
