The name 'Kongamato' translates into 'Breaker of Boats'. The appearance of this creature have been reported in Zambia, Angola, and Congo as well as in surrounding areas. The Kongamato said to be a pterosaur-like creature. Natives, who had been asked to describe it, tell the giant bird winged reddish brown skin that has a pointed beak with lots of sharp teeth. When shown pictures of the Pterodactyl natives, they soon identified as Kongamato, but when they were shown pictures of other prehistoric creatures, they regard it as something they are not seen before and that was only the Pterodactyl pictures that interest them.

Frank Melland, describes Kongamato in 1923 his book "In Witchbound Africa. Sanderson was walking through a quick moment, when he lost his balance and fell into the water. He then goes on to face the creature that lunge for him the first time and disappeared. As he has made its way to the edge of the River, the creature's back again and this time against fellow Sandrson's nosedive. This worked missed them both and then permanently disappeared into the night.
